Tripcoin is a budgeting mobile application, available for iOS only, which allows users to keep track of their expenses during their travels abroad. It currently supports more than 150 currencies and is free to download from the App Store.

As a frequent traveller, it’s safe to say I’ve experimented with my fair share of budgeting apps over the years. However, one problem that I consistently came across was that on nearly all of them I had to be connected to the internet to use the basic functions. Tripcoin, on the other hand, works with or without connection, meaning you can continue to use it even in the most remote areas. It also means that you do not have to worry about incurring substantial data roaming charges, nor eating up all your battery life.

Another good feature of Tripcoin is the ability to convert expenditure into one single currency using the current market exchange rate. This means that if you are travelling across various different countries in a small space of time, you don’t have to worry about working out all the various exchange rates as Tripcoin does it for you. Often, when using a foreign currency, it can feel as though it isn’t real money, therefore the ability to quickly convert it into your home currency helps make budgeting easier. With over 150 currencies supported, wherever you go is sure to available on the platform.

One issue with the platform, however, is that it is not available as an Android app, nor as a desktop service. This means that if you decide to change phones from iOS operating system to Android then you will no longer be able to access all your data. The ability to continue using Tripcoin on the web would eradicate this problem.
