World Nomads is one of the most well-rounded travel insurance companies on the market, providing coverage for both independent travellers and families for nearly every imaginable outcome during your travels abroad. They provide insurance for more than 150 countries and cover a wide range of different activities. Their benefits include cover for unexpected trip cancellation, emergency medical expenses, emergency medical transportation and protection for all your gear, from cameras to laptops.

Their website is very aesthetic and exceedingly simple to use. By just clicking on ‘Get A Price’ you will be taken to a section in which you have to enter your travel details, such as countries you plan on travelling to, country of residence, start date, end date and age. After inputting your information, they will form a quote for you that offers a ‘standard plan’ and a more expensive ‘explorer plan’. What I liked about this section was the transparency in viewing exactly what each plan included in an easy-to-read checklist divided into categories.

Another feature of the website that I found infinitely helpful was the ‘Community’ section that functions in the same way as a forum, where travellers can pose their travel-related questions and answer other people’s queries, with topics ranging from packing lists for trips to Greece to tips for getting the most out of a trip to New Delhi. This is a great resource for finding out more than just travel insurance and makes the website even more all-encompassing.

A couple of issues I found with World Nomads was that its insurance seemed to be considerably more expensive than similar alternatives. Although it covers extreme sports and offers a 24-hour phone service, for a short, more simple trip, it might be better going for something slightly more affordable. They also don’t offer insurance for those aged over 70.
