Spinlister is a premier bike rental and sharing website that provides a platform to connect bike owners with people looking to rent or borrow bicycles anywhere in the world. Owners list their bikes and renters can easily search for availability and make reservations, either via the website or free mobile app. They also offer ski equipment, snow and surf boards for rental.

Searching for a bike is easily done, with the option of typing in a specific location or using the world map to have a look around. You can then add a whole host of different filter options to fine tune results, such as bike type, price, rider height and people displaying multiple listings. The range of different bike types available to choose from is impressive, from road and mountain to tandem and electric.

Once you have selected an option, you can view a more detailed profile of the owner and the bike itself, including photos, hourly rate, and additional items, such as locks, helmets and lights. However, I found the reviews to be the most insightful aspect of the individual profiles, as they come from previous renters who have experienced using the bicycle without a vested interest to make it seem better than it is. Users leave a rating out of five stars and a short comment to let other riders know what to expect. For me, this makes the platform more reliable than bike shops, which often don’t have any reviews, particularly not of individual bikes.

One issue I found when using Spinlister to search for a bike to rent, however, was that the prices seemed to be more expensive than normal rates for hiring bikes.  Although it is to be expected when looking for a specialist model, even some of the most basic were priced at more than $10 USD an hour.
